PCNA

Overview

Preventive Cardiovascular Nurses Association (PCNA) approached Mekanic in early 2025 to build a marketing framework capable of supporting the launch of PCNA’s newly refreshed brand and website, while establishing a stronger, more consistent presence across the channels its nursing community relies on most. What began as a single scoped engagement quickly grew into an embedded, multi-year partnership spanning brand strategy, event branding, video production, and ongoing marketing support.

Strategy

Mekanic’s initial work with PCNA centered on developing a Marketing Framework to guide the organization’s outreach to cardiovascular nurses across every stage of their careers — from early-career nurses building community and pursuing continuing education, to advanced practice nurses seeking leadership and clinical credibility. The strategy identified core messaging pillars around trust, practicality, possibility, and community, and mapped tailored messaging, tone, and channels to each audience segment. This foundation set the stage for PCNA’s ongoing retainer-based marketing partnership, through which Mekanic would serve as an embedded extension of the PCNA team.

Tactics

Following the Marketing Framework, Mekanic transitioned into an ongoing retainer, supporting PCNA’s social media, newsletter, and broader content needs. After several months of support, PCNA wanted to expand their scope, asking Mekanic to lead a visual identity refresh for its Annual Symposium, developing new positioning, a “Connected in Care” theme, and a full CVN26 brand system — from event badges and pop-up banners to social assets and web banners — used to promote and brand the April 2026 event in Scottsdale, Arizona.

As the partnership deepened, PCNA identified multiple areas to expand the scope even further, including on-site testimonial and b-roll video capture at the Annual Symposium, communications support for an upcoming Congressional advocacy briefing, a series of short-form videos repurposed from PCNA’s continuing education courses, and a video series focused on hypertension.

Throughout the engagement, Mekanic has also supported PCNA’s ongoing storytelling and copywriting needs, including social content for the Heart to Heart Nurses podcast, email and newsletter support, and campaign messaging across channels.

Outcome

PCNA’s leadership was pleased with the results of the first year of work that the organization signed a three-year extension to continue the retainer partnership through 2028. That continued expansion of scope reflects a strong sense of trust and confidence in Mekanic as an extension of their own team. PCNA has reported that overall engagement has grown across its channels, with an increase in downloads and sign-ups as a result of the ongoing work.
